ABOUT CTPMA
The Chennai Timber & Plywood Merchant's Association
The Madras Timber Merchants Association was formed on 24th July 1947 with a vision and mission.
The main architects and promoters of our Our association were Sri N.V. Abdulla Sahib, Sri T.M. Osman Hajee, Sri C. Rajagopalachari, Sri N. Nallathambi Mudaliar, Sri R. Govindarajalu Naidu, Sri P. Shanmuga Mudaliar and Sri P. Duraisamy Mudaliar. Were persons of robust character and with high sense of public service.
Founders
One of our esteemed member M/s. V.M. Raghavel Naidu & Co., which is a 100 years old originations still active in business and also has a road named after their company in Myanmar (Burma).
In the earlier years for cutting of logs would require two men setting in opposite direction with a saw blade to cut logs. In the year 1969 Mr. Karamshi Shivdas Patel of M/s K.S. Patel & Co. (Now Known as Patel Timber Depot, Choolai) first installed electrical Band saw machine to cut logs and sizes.
Our association started with a modest no.of 23 members hailing from other states (settled in Chennai city) and Chennai city. As the days passed The traders community realised that the association could well look after their legitimate interests and in result our association step by step grown from around 23 to 421 at the time of Golden Jubilee and to approx. 800 in 2018 becoming stronger and stronger with coming years.
The association celebrated its GOLDEN JUBILEE in the year 1997 with the august presence of his Excellency the Mayor of Chennai. And the DIAMOND JUBILEE was celebrated in the year 2014 in the presence of his Excellency the Governor of Tamilnadu.
With growingpopularity of our association Plywood dealers / Trades who were part of timber merchants came together to unite with us and in the year 1998The Madras Timber Merchants Association has changed to Chennai Timber and Plywood Merchants Association.
The association promoted harmony with manufacturer, wholesaler and dealers.
